Apeiranthos: Is one of the biggest, and most traditional villages of Naxos. Built at the slopes of mountain Fanari, with many people staying there permanently and giving breath to the mountain life of Naxos all year round. Over the centuries it has managed to keep its unique authenticity, which is obvious in every step you take, in every alley you walk and wherever you look. Traditional houses, churches and big squares with local restaurants is the first thing you will meet when you enter the village. Locals have their own accent that has been preserved over time and it’s something that makes the village unique. Apeiranthian women are really active and they have established their own local union, by selling handmade products. Also, you will find five museums that would be really nice to visit: the Apeiranthos Archaeological Museum, the Geological Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Visual Arts Museum and the Folklore Museum. Filoti: Is the biggest village of Naxos and its separated in three smaller villages named, Liiri, Klefaro, Rachidi. Its population is about 1.800 people and that’s why it is the largest cycladian village. It is built in the slopes of mountain Zas, which is the tallest mountain of the island(1004m). It is ideal for everyone who loves adventures, hiking, and other outdoor activities because it is the starting point of many path that will lead you to many villages around central Naxos. One of the most famous path starts from Filoti and leads you to the top of mountain Zas. The view from the top is breathtaking and with a bit of luck you can see all the Cyclades, Ikaria, Samos and even Crete. Great traditional food, coffee and local deserts under the big plane tree in the main square of the village, is an experience that should not be missed. Colorful spots for photographs, and small walks combined with the traditional houses and local hospitality will definitely surprise any visitor. Koronos:  Is a mountainous village and one of the oldest of Naxos island. Wild beauty and traditional architecture are the two things that you would love the most about this village. During winter, permanent residents are not so many, but in summertime the village is often visited by locals and tourists who love the extra traditional style of Koronos. Small and traditional coffee shops, called “kafeneia”, and delicious local food will definitely make your day. Koronos is ideal for those who love peaceful and not crowded places. Is also known for the number of steps inside the village, which makes the whole scenery unique and authentic. In addition, for those who love walking inside nature, this village has plenty of small paths where anyone can walk and take beautiful nature pictures. You will experience the mountainous side of Naxos and maybe even forget that you are on an island. From the center of town, you will need 50 minutes by car, and about 60 minutes by local transportation.

 

Chalki: Is located at the center of Naxos, a few minutes before Filoti village and 16km from Hora. It used to be the capital of Naxos, and its unique architecture is beyond comparison. Colorful neoclassical houses, small alleys, cozy restaurants and bars makes it the most beautiful Naxian village. Traditional and modern at the same time with Venetian Towers, Byzantine churches and picturesque small roads, which reveal the long history of the village.  Walking through a small path which guide you to Saint George church, you will have the opportunity to see the olive groves for which the area is famous for. Local transportation has often bus schedules, and if you have a car you will need 15 minutes to reach the village.
